The result of an artist-in-residence programme in Serbia, photographer Natacha Paganelli’s video installation KOLO is nothing less than a theatrical extravaganza. Unfurling to the music of Matthieu Chauvin, the final product is reminiscent of a minimal version of the innovative choreographiy of the Russian ballet era? Minimal production cost are transcended by subtle editing effects bringing to life in kaleidoscopic fashion, a folkloric drama abounding with the form of vitality that can only be directly produced by nature. At the same time, this digital trickery uncovers the utopia wich brings to life the attempts to create a national spirit throught the reconstitution of folklore and traditions.
